Deubal is a Paris, France-based creative agency founded by Stéphanie Lelong and Olivier Marquézy. Specializing in illustration-based motion design, print and animation, Deubal creates film title sequences, short films, music videos, children’s books, poster designs, and theater sets. Their work is often character-based.
Olivier Marquézy studied graphic design for print in school. “When I got out of school I had the chance to work with Kuntzel & Degas,” says Marquezy during his presentation at the MU/Watch the Titles event in Eindhoven in 2010. “At the time they were doing mostly step by step animation. When I came in their studio, we started mixing techniques, mixing computer graphics and step-by-step animation. And so I learned animation with them and they learned computers with me.” Marquézy collaborated with the creative directors duo from 1996 till 2002. He did the typography and layout for the influential retro main title for Steven Spielberg’s movie ‘Catch Me If You Can’.
Deubal created a few TV brand identities and TV titles for the German-French network Arte. His film titles include The Teeth of the Night, Le Cactus, Priceless, Ca se Soigne, Crustacés et coquillages and After You.
Olivier Marquézy teaches teaches Motion Graphics at LISAA, the Institute for Applied Arts in Paris.
